The ‘it’ colours every DIY lover, joiner and carpenter should use in 2021

The ‘it’ colours every DIY lover, joiner and carpenter should use in 2021

The colour professionals have spoken!

According to Pantone, the colours to use anywhere and everywhere this year include an unmissable vibrant yellow colour they’ve called Illuminating, and a trusty hue named Ultimate Gray.

Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Colour Institute said: “The union of an enduring Ultimate Gray with the vibrant yellow Illuminating, expresses a message of positivity supported by fortitude.

“Practical and rock solid but at the same time warming and optimistic, this is a colour combination that gives us resilience and hope. We need to feel encouraged and uplifted; this is essential to the human spirit.”

Last year, we saw Classic Blue named as the colour to use, as it instilled a sense of calm, confidence and connection – three things we all needed during the midst of a pandemic.

But this year, whilst not much has changed on the pandemic front, we are now in the UK’s third national lockdown. So, an extra sprinkling of ‘resilience’ and ‘hope’ sure wouldn’t go amiss!

What yellow and grey signifies

According to the latest colour psychology research, yellow is known for ‘quickly grabbing attention’ whilst appearing warm and bright.

It also can invoke feelings of happiness.

Whereas, the colour grey has long been in the limelight for being the UK’s favourite shade for decorating when it comes to the home, with one in five people choosing the colour as their favourite hue for all things interior-focussed.

According to Pantone, grey is also ‘emblematic of solid and dependable elements’ which are everlasting and ‘provide a firm foundation’.
